"Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway." ~ John Wayne
Born May 1907, in Winterset, Iowa, the man we all know as Duke got his first leading role in The Big Trail, in 1930, at the age of 23. His next big break came 9 years later, at the age of 32, with Stagecoach, and although he made several films along the way, his career took another giant leap forward in 1948, with Red River, at the age of 48.
With more than 45 films to his credit, and 3 decades being among the top box office draw, Duke definitely showed he had courage, and could saddle up! Duke, loved by all, passed away in June 1979, at the age of 72 years, in Los Angeles, California.
