Howlite is often used to mimic other stones, such as the incredibly difficult to tell the difference of Turquoise. Both stones appear the same, except natural Turquoise is Blue ... and Howlite can be dyed to look alike. True Turquoise is brittle and difficult to work with for tumbling or lapidary work to shape it, and requires a matrix to back it. It can not be "strengthened", which is what you will find when dyed Howlite has been used to create "fake" Turquoise.

• CLEANING: To clean dirt & debris, add a drop or two of mild dish soap to a bowl of warm water and allow the stone to sit submerged for about 5 minutes. Gently wipe the stone with a damp soft cloth or brush, and allow to air dry. Spiritually, place the stone in a bowl of rice for 1-2 hours ... or overnight. Smudge with sage, or give a moonlight bath.
